Kuala Lumpur - Tama Rama Rama Butterfly Park

Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia (Taman Tasik Perdana)

The Taman Tasik Perdana park is located in the West of Kuala Lumpur close to the central railway station.

The park is dominated by a large lake and is surrounded by ornamental trees and shrubs.

Around the edges of the lake herons and kingfishers were seen and butterflies were feeding on the wild flowers.

The lake is surrounded by a lawned area and here there were many Common Mynas, Oriental Magpie-Robins and Zebra Doves.

Zebra Dove - Merbuk - Geopelia striata

Common Myna -Tiong Gembala Kerbau - Acridotheres tristis
This was a rather scruffy individual with no feathers on the head.

Orioles and other birds were spotted in the trees.

A flower-lined path led to a small pond, here there were several butterflies, including this one which was as big as my hand.

Whilst the weather was generally dry (hot and humid) there was an almost daily heavy downpour often accompanied by thunder and lightning. When I was in the park I managed to shelter from this particular storm.

Some good birds were seen flying over the park like this Brahminy Kite (late in the afternoon) and a large flock of Milky Storks.

Milky Storks - Upeh Bakau - Myceteria cinerea

I headed outside the main park area to visit the Tama Rama Rama Butterfly park. On the way I saw these bee-eaters.

Blue-Throated Bee-eaters - Beberek Leher Biru - Merops viridis

At the Orchid Park there were good views of central KL.

Near the Bird Park a group of Macacque monkies were feeding on some fruits growing at the side of the road.
